Birthday Aftermath 2 : The Faculty visit
Edward Suhadi comment 2 Comments

This was birthday surprise number two.

Not did I suspect there was any, because after the crazy stuff the guys pulled last night, I thought that was sweet enough to last the whole day.

Apparently, again, they had prepared this one. They contacted the teachers from my almamater, Regina Pacis Jakarta, to offer them a visit to my new office, while taking some picture together, and maybe seeing how did one of their students come to be.

An old friend, Kosen, called me and said he wanted to come for lunch with me at the office. Not expecting anything I agreed to this pleasant surprise. Turned out he was supposed to keep me distracted in my office room, so we talked and talked, until suddenly my office room door opened, and stood there Wiwik, two cameramen, and my old PPKN (what’s the English word for that?) teacher, Mr. Suherman. See that look on my face? It was priceless.

Still flabbergasted, trying to register who is this man (I haven’t seen the man in 10 years maybe) they pulled me downstairs, and there the whole faculty were waiting.

Kinda like a cheesy TV show, I broke into tears, and more and more I recognized familiar faces that I literally grew up with. I mean these were the people that caught me sneaking out of the class, cheating on tests, trying my first cigarette 🙂

In my adult years, I have tremendous respect for them. I have planned (yes, so far only planned) to pay them a visit, because after I grew up and stop being a short-minded teenager, I kinda feel bad about the way I treated my teachers. They say it was a very noble thing to do, being a teacher, and I couldn’t agree more. The fact that I’ve never paid them a visit says a lot about my priorities, that’s why I kinda feel bad after they have left 🙁 Made a promise to contribute to the school, maybe teaching a photography class one day (I’ve mentioned this to the principal, and he was very thrilled to hear that.)

So guys, if you haven’t paid a visit to your teachers, from some of the first people that teach you manners and discipline in this world, why don’t you? 😀

Thank you again for all the guys that made that day happened. I will remember that for the rest of my life.

  1. I was moved to tears….*cengeng*… Suddenly I remember my old high school teacher, the infamous Bu Dewi (known also by many2 kids outside my school as a super killer teacher). She’s the one who almost burn my sweet 17th birthday albums because my classmates passed them around during a class session. She always called our names based on our scores when she delivered the exam result, from the best to the worst. What a memory! I do miss her so much…
