My First So Called Workshop
Edward Suhadi comment 6 Comments

I always love to teach, so when the guys from JPCC Church Photography asked me to do their first workshop, I said yes instantly. They are aiming this one for the beginners, for the guys and gals that just bought their first DSLR, for the moms and pops wanting to use the camera correctly.

I enjoyed the experience. I am always amazed at how much people want to listen to you, provided you know what you are talking about, and have the good intention to share, to make sure the people on the other side understands.

I shared the basics of exposure, the simple compositions up to knowing your style and getting better pictures. We closed the session by having a team of martial artists do their ‘fighting demonstration’ of Kempo and Wushu for us to photograph. I tried a couple of locks and throws, and rest assured, these guys mean business 😀

But before any of that, I started the workshop by sharing what I believe is the term ‘photographer’ stands for for now.

It used to be about a profession that is very hard to learn and very hard to master.

You need to make a lot of mistakes and spend a lot of time and a lot of money to become a ‘photographer’. These days are not those days. You see everyone throwing around the term ‘photographer’ you don’t know which ones are credible enough to hold the title, and which ones that do not understand why their pictures are so dark. I myself never introduced myself as a photographer. Ask around 🙂 (You know what I call myself if you are on my BBM contacts, hehehe…)

So I closed the whole ‘photographer talk’ by saying that we all need to build credibility, build portfolios, build clienteles.

When you earned it, you’ll know.

Note: I never saw more pictures of the workshop eventhough I saw people taking a lot of pictures while the class is in session. Could they be in your hard drive? Please leave a message in the comment section so I could add them to this post. Thanks!
