Michael and Jennifer in Those Movies That You've Seen Before
Edward Suhadi comment 12 Comments

I have been wanting to show this to you guys since, ever. But Mike and Jen wedding had not passed that time, so I must kept this one a secret for their sake. Now is different 🙂

Michael (Mike) and Jennifer (Jen) is a part of a series of preweddings that I have been doing lately, in the spirit of the revolution. If you have not read that post, take a few minutes reading it now. I’ll wait.

Done? Okay 🙂 In the spirit of the revolution, that is exploring new concepts and themes and shooting what I love, I offered Mike and Jen different approaches for their prewedding. This is where we definetely clicked: they want me to do things that I have never done before. Executions that need experimentation.

As always, and you can ask this to any creative in any field: Great work comes from great clients.

Thinking and dreaming of a great and new concept/execution is easy. What’s not is finding paying clients that will let you do it.

But that is what Mike and Jen is all about. They let me. “Whatever you want. Please, spare none.”

Even though the concept of movies has been done many times, but this time is a little bit different. Apart from they’ll bring in a lot of friends and families as stand-ins, I’ll bring lots of lights and light the scenes as good as I can. So it’s not just click-click-click, but I already have spesific storyboards to shoot. So we’re not just finishing the day off, but we’re going from storyboards to storyboards. We’re shooting four ‘cliche’ Hollywood genres: Mafia, Musical, Comedy and Drama. We’re going to reenact some cliche frames, the you’ve seen it before frames, but with Mike and Jen and friends in it 🙂

I was so pumped on the shooting day. Experimentation. Doing things that has never been done before. These are the things that fuels a creative man. It’s the best thing you can give to an art worker: creative freedom.

So much fun that day.

And the results. Man-oh-man. I am definetely biased, but I am so darn proud of these frames down here. Let me walk you through.

*****

We started the day by shooting the “Musical” genre. Grease-oriented to be exact.

This spesific frame is already in my head. We put on the movie title in later and it's perfect.
Oh my. Rawr Mr Travolta.

Love love this shot. Everyone is like *pow*
Mike and Jen being all natural in front of the camera. See that sway?

Love this one too. Got that 'perfect for makeout' diner.

Can you see how cool they look? Hahahaha!
Here's a closer look.

We then proceed to the “Mafia” genre.

Definetely got that feel of a crime family, hehehe...
A subtitle in red is all it needs.
We brought in the smoke machine to give that thick smoky room

Can't tell enough how I love this frame. Character.

We then hit off to the gym in Monas. Proceed to the “Drama” genre, inspired by that movie ‘The Figher’. The ring is not what it looks like here folks. It was in a parking lot, open, hot, lot’s of people staring, and a couple of impatient real boxers wanting us to finish fast are lurking around. Not your ideal conditions 🙂 But we managed to shoot some classy shots here.

From the looks of things, Mike's in deep trouble 🙂

Great make-up here by Fifi from Adeline Make-Up
Hey, he's gotta win, rite? 🙂

We proceed to the last take. My home for the setting of the “Comedy” genre. The cliche opposite-attracts screnario. Mr Clean meet Ms Flamboyant here. But I think we pulled it off really good here.

Fast forward to their wedding day, we gave each genre a title and some screencaps, to mimic the old time movie posters we used to lurk around in the 21 cineplexes, remember? Then Yucien Lotus gave them some lightbulbs and voila! Never had party guests take their picture with my prewedding as their background, but that day so many Mike and Jen’s friends queued up and took turns taking pictures with the displays. It was a huge success.

Yes it will take courage, from the client and also the artworker. But if they can do it right, definetely it will be a result that both sides will be proud of.

In 2012 I will definetely will shoot more of this kinda stuff. Stuff that I love. Viva la Revolusiong!
