Do Not Capture. Burn.

Some image could be forgotten, but some images could burn in your memory.

This morning me and Francy got our turn to take the five year old Nala to school. She is the daughter of our hosts in Ambon and dear friends Victor and Evelyn. As we are now without a child, I knew that this is going to be somewhat emotional.

I pulled the car over, Francy got off the car and opened the door as Nala climbed down.

Francy then held her hand and they both start to walk into this narrow entryway to her school.

I watched them moving slowly from the tinted windows, and refrain myself from pulling my phone to get a picture. I was just burning this image inside my head.

I remember the quote I put on the front page of our company profile by Joan Miro, the spanish painter.

“You can look at a picture for a week and never think of it again. You can also look at a picture for a second and think of it all your life.”

Maybe for some very special images, we don’t have to pull out our phones. In this age of shooting everything that moves, we could again learn to remember. Savor the moment, and let the image burn a hole inside our heart.

I just saw this picture for a second, but I will think of it all my life.
