Microwave Time

The first time I wrote about the Ted Williams, The Golden Voice man was almost two months ago. Then I read somewhere because of that appearance on YouTube, everything was going to look okay for him: he was offered a couple of high-profile jobs, given a home, and been to talk shows. Everything seemed to turned out great for him.

Then I read this. In short, things have not been working out for him. The jobs have not been attended well. He’s got into a fight with his daughter, one of his nine abandoned children, and has been returning to his drug addiction. All the companies that took him now are pulling off the deals. Like the article reported: “He was abandoned as quickly as he was embraced.”

Since I heard about his offers, in my little heart, I know that success does not come overnight. In an era of working smart, working fast, climbing efficiently to the success ladder of life, I was always reminded and witnessed that success (whatever is the meaning for you) needs time. You just cannot replace it. Even with great chances, good education, amazing opportunities, one still needs to be patient. Like our parents always said: “Things that rise fast, will fall fast.”

My friend Shelvia tweeted that she was in an interview with one of a visiting pastor to her church, and one of the things that she said is that you cannot ‘microwave’ your quality time with your children. They need you there for long stretches of time, for things to get slowly cooked.

A majority of chefs will swear that stew cooking in a pressured pot for 1 hour cannot compete with the sweetness and tenderness of another that is slowly cooked in a low heat for 4 hours.

Some things, well, a lot of things, need time. Slowly cooked, not microwaved.
